Skyworks Solutions announced that Samsung is leveraging its
ultra-compact and high efficiency front-end modules (FEMs) for
open-loop EDGE, and power amplifiers (PAs) for WCDMA and HSDPA across
more than 10 innovative universal mobile telecommunications system
(UMTS) models. In particular, Skyworks is supporting their first mobile
TV slider phone for Europe.
At a slim 16.7 millimeters (mm), the P960 supports both European mobile TV technology standards – digital video broadcast-handheld (DVB-H), and the new open mobile
alliance mobile broadcast service enabler suite (OMA-BCAST). The
handset features optimized viewing with a large 2.6 inch quarter video
graphics array (QVGA) thin film transistor (TFT) screen, and Bang &
Olufsen ICEPower technology for top-notch audio. The device also offers
a 3-megapixel camera with power LED, music player, and FM radio with
RDS for 24/7 news.

Waterloo, Ontario-based smartphone maker RIM announced the new
BlackBerry Bold (9000) flagship smartphone today, its slickest,
speediest, most powerful and most connected BlackBerry to date.
Research In Motion (RIM) said its Bold smartphone is the first
BlackBerry to offer high-speed mobile Internet access using tri-band
HSDPA networks, Wi-Fi and integrated GPS. It also has twice the screen
resolution (480 x 320 px) of the current BlackBerry Curve model, making
for a very sharp display.

Verizon Wireless today announced that the Samsung Glyde will be
available on May 9. The Glyde is a multimedia and messaging phone that
offers a compact, touch-screen device with a full QWERTY keyboard.
The Glyde integrates a 2.8-inch touch-screen with tactile response and
a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It comes equipped with Verizon Wireless'
services such as VCAST Music and Video. With VCAST Music, users can
access more than 3 million songs that can be purchased and downloaded
to the Glyde.

There's something about the idea of cramming a cellphone into a wristwatch that keeps the designs rolling out, but is this the first one with a touch of style? Possibly, with that metal case and strap, and looking not too horrifically fat to wear. The EP2502 even has a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera, tri-band and Bluetooth support and claims to be shockproof. It's also supposedly the World's first waterproof cellphone, though we don't know to what waterproofing standard.

Taiwan-based smartphone maker HTC unveiled a new flagship phone today
with a touch-screen display and applications for viewing content from
websites such as YouTube and Google Maps.
High Tech Computer (HTC) said its Touch Diamond phone would offer
high-speed mobile Internet access using HSDPA and HSUPA, upgrades to
existing third-generation networks that boost data transmission speeds.
